What is the Code Heart Attack?
It is a coordinated protocol for the immediate and optimal care of patients with suspected myocardial infarction. In the event of suspicion, a complete team of various specialists and units (interventional cardiologists, nurses, X-ray technicians, anaesthetists and intensive care unit) coordinates and activates itself in order to ensure an immediate response.
The early application of certain strategies greatly improves patient recovery, decreases mortality in the acute phase, limits the size of the infarct, and reduces the likelihood of developing heart failure. The protocol of the Heart Attack Code provides patients with greater safety in the event of a myocardial infarction.
How is the code activated?
If an acute myocardial infarction is suspected, the team of experts prepares for the arrival of the patient, who is taken directly to the hemodynamic room where he will receive the necessary treatment. The protocol for the Code Heart Attack provides patients with greater safety against myocardial infarction. The cause of a heart attack is the clogging of an artery and the health goal is to achieve the quick reopening of the artery blocked by a clot.
Reperfusion methods
There are currently two methods of reperfusion used to restore blood flow to the affected coronary artery: pharmacological reperfusion (fibrinolytic treatment) and mechanical reperfusion through coronary angioplasty or percutaneous coronary intervention (a procedure in which a catheter with a small balloon is inserted into the blocked coronary artery to clear the blockage).
